Surgical Care
Care for surgical patients includes therapies directed at the prevention of infection and blood clots. These measures focus on the timely administration of the most effective medication. This also means when hair is removed it is clipped and not shaved, so as to prevent nicks in the skin that could become infected. For select subsets there are measures of glucose control and post-operative temperature.
Surgical Care Composite
What does this mean?
We measure the percent of patients eligible for each of the care elements who actually received the care element. The composite score is the average over 12 months. We have improved our care over the last four years. Our goal is to achieve 100% compliance.
What are we doing to improve?
Through our system collaborative work groups, we have shared best practices. Surgical care depends on teamwork. With many members of the team working with the patient, we have further standardized various preoperative and post-operative protocols and clearly designated the individual who is responsible.
