Who can participate in the walk?

Anyone! The walk is designed for all levels of ability and is family and pet-friendly. Walkers include community members, Saint Anne's Hospital employees and patients and their families. And unlike other walks, there is no a minimum amount of money you need to contribute in order to walk. Click here to learn more about becoming a walker.

Do I need to register?

Yes, all walkers must register in order to receive their walker rewards and be recognized in the Get Moving Memory Book!
Pre-registration: Save time and gain an extra hour sleep on the day of the walk by pre-registering on May 15.

What is the walk route?

The walk leaves from Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School and returns to the high school, navigating through a quiet, residential area in Fall River for 3.5 miles. We have a permit from the city to host this walk and the area is free from traffic and safe for all levels of ability. Each walker will receive a route map upon registration and follow signs and volunteers marking the route along the way. Click here for Route Map.

What if I can't walk 3.5 miles?

Then walk what you can! There will be markers along the route to signal walkers who would prefer to walk a shorter distance. The athletic track will also be available for those who are more comfortable remaining at Diman.

How long does the event last?

Schedule of events: 

8:00 am Registration: If you take advantage of our pre-registration Friday, May 15 you will not need to arrive at the Walk until 9:00 am.

8:00am-9:00am Continental Breakfast

8:00am-11:00am Entertainment: Ongoing before, during, and after the Walk - DJ MC Music Productions and more!

9:00am Opening ceremonies: Walk kicks off after a fun group warm up. The length of time that the 3.5 mile walk takes depends on your speed.

11:15am Closing ceremonies and refreshments, including pizza from Domino's Pizza-Team Fall River.

Where do I go once I arrive at Diman?

Look for directional signs when you arrive. Walkers who did not pre-register on May 15 must visit the registration tables located in the gym. All others are invited to gather outside.

I am part of a team, can I give my donations to my captain to hand in for me? Do I need to register myself or may I send someone in my place?

Teams and groups may choose to register at the same time, but for reasons of liability are not permitted to register by giving their donations to the captain or other team member. Each walker must register THEMSELVES at pre-registration on Friday, May 15 or at Diman the morning of the walk. It is at this time a walker verifies and submits their donations to a trained staff person, signs a financial statement confirming the total submitted, signs a liability waiver, and receives a receipt to claim their rewards. Also, if you do not register, we will not have your name to include in the Get Moving Memory Book. Only Parents/Legal Guardians may register for children under 18 years of age.

How do I turn in the contributions I've collected as a walker?

At either pre-registration on May 15 or at registration the day of the Walk on May 16. Walkers who turn in donations during pre-registration can add to their total contribution on the day of the walk during registration at 8:00 am.

Is there a minimum amount of money I need to raise to walk?

No. However, last year, the average walker raised $228 and the top fundraiser raised more than $2,385!

Will I get a T-shirt that day? Can I buy one?

If you have qualified for a t-shirt by raising $100 or more you will receive it on the day you register. Rewards are based on individual fundraising so if you are part of a team, rewards are based on what you raise individually. Get Moving Walk merchandise is not available for purchase.

If I qualify for other rewards when will I get them?

To ensure that we order the correct amount of each reward item we will place a special order immediately following the event. You will receive your reward within 60 days and will be contacted by phone.

What if it rains?

The walk will continue as planned. It will be your decision as to whether you'd like to walk in the rain. Walker sponsorship money will be collected as scheduled during registration and pre-registration. Regardless of whether or not you walk, please turn in your walker sponsorship money as planned so that the funds will benefit the Saint Anne’s Hospital Regional Cancer Care Program.

Will my sponsors receive a thank you letter from Saint Anne's Hospital?

In order for us to allocate the maximum proceeds Get Moving to our cancer care program, thank you letters will only be sent to registered walkers and those who write a personal check for $250 in support of a walker. Walkers are encouraged to personally thank those who have supported their fundraising efforts. Click here for a sample thank you letter.
