In 1999, a small group of community members, hospital employees and Hudner patients joined forces to do something about cancer. They chose to "get moving." These individuals planted the seed for what has become one of Saint Anne's Hospital's most anticipated community events: a 3.5 mile walk that raises funds for the Hudner Oncology Center at Saint Anne's Hospital.

Although the event has grown dramatically on every level, its success remains the dedication and effort of the community members, employees, and patients who bring the walk to life. These volunteers work tirelessly throughout the year securing sponsors, recruiting walkers, and attending to the smallest event details. Each year they keep one vision in mind when planning the walk: making a difference for the patients of the Hudner Oncology Center.

Together with hundreds of walkers, sponsors, and donors, the Saint Anne's Hospital Get Moving Walk has made a difference to cancer patients in the Greater Fall River area. In the event's history, the walkers, donors, and sponsors of the walk, have raised over $650,000, net of expenses, for cancer patients.

These funds helped to establish the creation of the FIRSTFED Center for Breast Care at Saint Anne's Hospital and made possible the 7,000-sq. ft. expansion of the Hudner Oncology Center. Proceeds have also helped Hudner acquire advanced radiation treatment technology. This technology includes the area's first CT-based, three-dimensional radiation treatment planning facility and a state-of-the-art Linear Accelerator with intensive modulated radiation therapy which more precisely treats tumors while minimizing exposure to healthy tissue.

Now, in its tenth year, Get Moving is showing signs of realizing its largest fundraising goal yet...$150,000, net of expenses! It's a very big goal, but we have very big hearts, including three local businesses whose major support has helped the walk committee get a jump-start towards reaching this milestone.

Rockland Trust has signed on as the event's title sponsor with an investment of $10,000! Anthony F. Cordeiro Insurance Agency, and New England Gas return as $5,000 Presenting Sponsors.  These sponsorships, combined with others received, will allow all walker contributions to be designated to the support of radiation therapy equipment used to deliver more than 55,000 treatments every year.

We invite you to join the Rockland Trust Get Moving Walk to benefit the Hudner Oncology Center. Make a donation, make a commitment, make a difference! Join us...just get moving! Click here to learn more about how you can become involved.

About The Hudner Oncology Center
Photo of Patient and CAT scannerWe know that a diagnosis of cancer affects not just the body, but also the mind and soul. Since Saint Anne's Hospital cancer care program was founded in 1976 as a medical oncology outpatient clinic of Boston University, our Hudner Oncology Center has grown to provide the region's most comprehensive, hospital-based oncology services to more than 10,000 patients by offering the expertise of university cancer centers with the care and convenience of a community setting...and a host of complementary services to help patients and their loved ones make the cancer journey with care and concern.

The Hudner Oncology Center at Saint Anne's provides inpatient and outpatient medical and radiation oncology services (including intensity-modulated radiation therapy and radioactive prostate seed implant therapy); participation in national clinical trials; and a full range of patient and family education and support services. Hudner also provides radiation oncology services at The Oncology Center in Dartmouth, MA (a joint service of Saint Anne's Hospital, Southcoast Hospitals Group and the Longwood Radiation Oncology Center/Harvard Medical School) and consultation services in Newport, RI.
