Robert F. Stoico - FIRSTFED Center for Breast Care

The area's first hospital-based, 100% digital mammography service, the Robert F. Stoico/FIRSTFED Center for Breast Care at Saint Anne’s Hospital offers mammography with an important difference: It captures and stores breast images completely electronically.   

Digital mammography offers sophisticated X-ray technology that allows radiologists to easily view clear, detailed images that can detect subtle changes in breast tissue that may suggest cancer before a lump can be felt.  With digital imaging, views of the breast can be lightened, darkened or magnified for better examination by radiologists and technologists.

Saint Anne’s Hologic digital mammography uses revolutionary technology to improve quality and comfort, reduce the procedure time, and produce high-quality images with improved visualization of breast tissue.  It is an important addition to the center’s diagnostic capabilities, including:

• computer-aided detection (CAD) for mammography
• breast ultrasound
• PET/CT
• nuclear medicine
• stereotactic breast biopsy
• needle localization
• bone densitometry (bone density testing)

A full range of breast health treatment options, including access to national clinical trials, is readily available and coordinated by the Stoico/FIRSTFED Center’s nurse navigator with the hospital’s Hudner Oncology Center.

Established in 2001, the Robert F. Stoico/FIRSTFED Center for Breast Care at Saint Anne’s Hospital is the area’s largest hospital-based center dedicated to breast health.  In addition to diagnostic and follow-up health services, the center also offers ongoing educational activities to promote knowledge of health topics of interest to women.
