Pulmonary Medicine

Pulmonary medicine focuses on the evaluation and treatment of a wide variety of lung diseases, such as asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, pneumonia, lung cancer and sarcoidosis. We also care for critically ill patients. The fundamental goal of pulmonary medicine is the delivery of excellence in patient care through safe, effective, patient-centered care.

We provide a comprehensive approach to all varieties of acute and chronic lung diseases by sharing knowledge, applying evidence based decision-making and ensuring cooperation among other professionals to deliver a holistic approach to complex medical problems. 

We offer diagnostic services for inpatients and outpatients including:

  • Pulmonary function
  • Diffusion studies
  • Methocholine challenges
  • Arterial blood gasses
  • Six-minute walk test   

The critical care team includes a diverse group of highly trained professionals who provide care in the intensive care unit and work towards the best possible outcomes while minimizing complications in seriously ill patients. Our staff consists of intensivists (board-certified physicians in critical care medicine), critical care nurses, clinical pharmacologists, registered dietitians, respiratory therapists, social workers, physical therapists, and occupational therapists, among others.

We also provide pulmonary rehabilitation for respiratory disease, including:

  • Individually tailored respiratory disease therapy
  • Symptom management
  • Exercise and education
  • Pulmonary maintenance program
  • Better Breathers, which is a long-term disease support group
