New Emergency Center

Today, Holy Family Hospital is caring for patients in its new emergency center. Just a little over a year since the groundbreaking ceremony, the new $21 million, 24,000 sq. ft. emergency center provides a modern, state-of-the-art environment that brings advanced emergency medicine and compassionate care to the greater Merrimack Valley.

In the new emergency center, board-certified physicians and nurses certified in trauma care can treat up to 54,000 visits per year. Up until now, we had been caring for more than 41,000 visits annually in an ER originally constructed for 25,000 visits.

The new center offers improved efficiency, comfort and privacy for patients and families:

• 32 private treatment rooms, each equipped with computer work stations
• Two-bay cardiac room
• Double trauma room
• Dedicated imaging area with state-of-the-art 64-slice CT scanner and digital radiographic imaging
• EMS lounge and work area
• Rapid medical evaluation area in the lobby
• Access to round-the-clock cardiac care
• Certified stroke facility
• Electronic medical records
• Advanced interpreter services technology (200 languages/dialects)

Accessing the New Emergency Center at Holy Family Hospital

Emergency services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. When entering the hospital off East Street, stay to the left and follow the signs to the ED. Emergency Care at Holy Family Hospital

Holy Family offers quality emergency treatment for injured patients, with a team of highly-trained emergency physicians, nurses and staff. All emergency nursing staff are certified in trauma care and emergency medicine pediatric care. Our dedicated team of RN’s average eight years of service and 13 years of experience.

Together, our emergency center team is committed to providing you and your family with immediate access to advanced medical treatment in the event of a serious injury or accident:

• Designation as a New England Regional Stroke Center
  Holy Family Hospital is an accredited stroke facility, lead by neurologist Andreas P. Schoeck, MD, of New England Neurological Associates. In partnership with Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), we provide 24/7 evaluation of potential stroke patients. All of this is done at the patient's bedside using state-of-the-art "Telemedicine." At the earliest sign of a stroke, call 911 and visit the emergency center immediately.  
• Life-Saving Cardiac Care Facility
  24/7 primary angioplasty for heart attack victims; elective coronary angioplasty to remove blockages; independent Cath Lab with 24/7 services, area’s only cardiac rehabilitation program certified by AACVP 
• Regional Provider of Neurology/Neurosurgery Services
  Full service 24/7 coverage of all neurosurgical emergencies. 

Caring for Our Community

In 2010, our employee ambassadors dedicated more than 1,300 hours to community outreach. Their efforts focus on providing increased education, prevention, awareness and early detection of community health care priorities. These include: diabetes; skin, prostate, head and neck and breast cancer; stress management; and family safety.

By collaborating with local organizations and partners, we bring health care into the community through offering support groups and lectures, free screenings, and more. Our emergency center participates in local community events, including Holy Family’s annual Teddy Bear Clinic, where they provide information on topics such as bike and helmet safety and recognizing the signs of a stroke. In addition, our award-winning Family Safety Project service provides safety for adults and children who are victims of domestic/family violence.
