Gastroenterology

The Division of Gastroenterology (GI) at Holy Family Hospital concentrates on the diagnosis and management of the full spectrum of GI disorders through the use of state-of-the-art technologies. The division addresses many disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, liver, gallbladder and pancreas.

Clinical Services

The GI division uses a variety of procedures and one of the most commonly performed procedures, colonoscopy, is a critical screening tool for cancer and other diseases of the colon. Endoscopic procedures are also used to diagnose gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and diverticulitis.

Other procedures commonly conducted include flexible sigmoidoscopy, upper endoscopyendoscopic balloon dilation, placement of stents, control of GI bleeding, liver biopsy, placement of feeding tubes, endoscopy of the small bowel, and evaluation of the motility of the esophagus.

The division offers a full range of clinical services including:

  • Colonoscopy for colorectal cancer screening with polyp removal
  • Endoscopic procedures used to diagnose gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), ulcer disease and diverticulitis
  • Diagnosis and management of inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, including the management of these diseases during pregnancy)
  • Management of Hepatitis B and C, as well as other liver diseases
  • Diagnostic and therapeutic biliary endoscopy, including stent placement and stone removal
