Patient and Visitor Information

Here you will find general visitor information and answers to questions you may have when coming to visit a patient at Carney Hospital.

Visiting Hours 

The following hours have been set aside for families and friends to visit.

Medical/Surgical and Intermediate/Step Down Units: 

Visitors and Hours:

  • All visitors: 1 p.m. - 8 p.m.

Adult Mental Health: 

Visitors and Hours*:

  • All visitors: Monday - Friday: 4 p.m. - 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.
  • All visitors: Saturday, Sunday, Holidays: 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.

Adolescent Mental Health: 

Visitors and Hours*:

  • All visitors: Monday - Friday: 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.
  • All visitors: Saturday, Sunday, Holidays: 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Critical Care Unit: 

Visitors and Hours:

  • Immediate family: Check with unit staff about visiting hours

*To prevent our patients from becoming overtired and because of space constraints, no more than two visitors, age 12 and over, are permitted to visit a patient at the same time. In the event of a special circumstance or occassion, such as a birthday or anniversary, or for a visitation request for children under age 12, contact your nurse.

Patient Updates 

Family and friends can check on your progress by calling patient information at 617-506-2464 or 617-506-2465. To protect your privacy, in accordance with HIPAA regulations, only basic information on your medical condition will be provided, such as good, fair, serious or critical.

Parking 

Parking facilities are located in the front of the hospital and in the garage to the rear of the hospital. Handicap parking is available in both areas. Patients park for free with validation stamp. Visitors pay a nominal fee. Parking is free on the day of discharge.

(Note: No cars may be left overnight in either parking areas without permission from the security department.) 

Gift Shop 

The gift shop is located across from the information desk in the front lobby and is closed on legal holidays. The gift shop sells a variety of sweets, reading materials, greeting cards, gift items, jewelry and children's clothing.

Gift Shop Hours:
Monday - Friday: 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday (Seasonally)

Flowers and Balloons 

Flower arrangements and plants may be sent or personally delivered to patients in most units. They are not, however, permitted in the Critical Care Units. A selection of fresh flowers is also available through the hospital gift shop. Visitors are asked only to bring Mylar® (foil) balloons to patients when visiting. Due to the potential hazards of Latex balloons, this type of balloon is prohibited within the hospital.

Cash Machine 

An automatic teller machine (ATM) is located next to the gift shop in the lobby. The ATM accepts a variety of bankcards.

Coffee Shop 

Dunkin' Donuts is located in the lobby and is open, daily, from:
5:30 a.m. - 9 p.m. (8:30 p.m. on Sunday)

Cafeteria 

Patients and visitors are welcome to use the cafeteria located on the basement level of the hospital.

Breakfast 

You'll find a variety of fresh breads, bagels and pastries. A full grill menu featuring cooked to order eggs, meats, potatoes and pancakes is also available. We also offer lighter selections such as fruits, yogurt and cereals.

Hours: 
Hot Breakfast: 6:45 a.m. - 9:45 a.m.
Cold Breakfast: 6 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.

Lunch and Dinner 

We feature a wide variety of selections from Selona Grill, Signature Deli and Copper Pot soups. A hot entrée station with alternating fresh carved meats or made to order sautéed items is also available. A bountiful salad bar and a grab and go salad and sandwich selection is available for those on the run.

Hours:
Grille & Entrées: 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. - 7 p.m.
Deli: 11 a.m. - 7 p.m.

Vending machines are located in the seating area of the cafeteria.
A microwave is also available.

Chapel 

The chapel, which is located on the second floor near the main set of elevators, is open 24 hours a day. All are welcome to visit any time of the day or night. Visitors to the chapel are invited to record their requests for prayer in our prayer petition book at the back of the chapel. Masses and other services celebrated in the chapel can be viewed on channel 15 of the in-house television system.
