Medical Records and Billing

Your Medical Records

You have the right to access your medical records while you are a patient at Carney Hospital and after your discharge. While you are here, your medical records serve as a worksheet for your health care team. We do not recommend that you seek to review your medical records during your hospitalization. Instead, we urge you to direct all questions to your doctor.

To review your medical records after discharge or to release them to another person or facility, send your request in writing with your signature to the medical records department. No information can be given over the phone. You may pick up your copy in person, or we will send it to you. Depending upon the circumstances, there may be a fee involved for transferring or receiving copies of your medical records. For more information, call 617-506-4608.

Billing

Your medical insurance should cover most of the costs of your hospitalization. However, in some cases you may receive two sets of bills, one for the hospital's services and another for your doctor's services. For example, if your doctor requires you to have an x-ray, you will receive a hospital bill for use of the x-ray equipment, supplies and hospital personnel. You will also receive a bill for your
doctor's reading and interpretation of the X-ray.

If you do not have insurance coverage, you will meet with a financial coordinator at the hospital who will assess whether you may be eligible for MassHealth or Commonwealth Care coverage.

If you have any questions about your hospital bill, call 800-664-3884
