Volunteering

Volunteers are an important part of the hospice team. Volunteers are individuals who have been through extensive training and are supervised by the hospice volunteer coordinator. They are able to assist you and your family in a variety of ways. They can provide respite care, run errands, prepare a meal, or just listen as a friend. The volunteer coordinator will visit you and your family prior to assigning a volunteer who will best serve your needs.

Volunteers:

  • Provide companionship for the patient and family
  • Stay with the patient while family members take a much needed break
  • Are available to listen and lend support
  • Read to the patient
  • Sit in silence when it is appropriate
  • Provide an atmosphere of warmth and understanding
  • Know how to be a friend
  • Understand and respect the confidentiality of those served
